As Earth Day passes us by for another year, I hope you have still stuck to the everyday things you’ve chosen to change to make this world a better place. Maybe you have been bringing your own reusable grocery bags to the store, maybe you are making your own household cleaners, but what about buying a new vehicle? It’s probably not something you even thought about but the car driving can greatly help at reducing your carbon footprint and of course, you’d be caring for the environment. Getting yourself into a “green” car can have it’s challenges especially when it comes to the price of them. However, Kelley Blue Book just recently released its lists of the “top eco-friendly cars under $40k”, and I’m pleased to say that Kia had four cars featured!
Starting off with the always head-turning, 2017 Kia Niro making it’s way onto Kelley Blue Book list of 10 Best Hybrid Cars Under $40,000. If you’ve read my coverage on the Kia Niro, you’d know that this is one of my top favorite cars out right now. The “HUV” is a reliable hybrid priced right around $23,000 for the FE trim level while giving you an EPA estimated 52 mpg city, 49 highway and 50 combined. It has an impressive 6-speed automatic transmission and a combined horsepower of 139 at 5,700 rpm with room for 5 passengers plus all the luggage you’d need to tote around. You don’t have to sacrifice style with this baby.
There’s no mistaken what this car is when it pulls up next to you. The Kia Soul has a distinct look that everyone loves. Now with the 2017 Kia Soul EV out, it landed on the 5 Best Electrical Cars Under $40,000 list. Don’t think this is the same ol’ Soul you’ve probably looked at before, Kia has reinvented it! The Soul EV is, get this… completely gas free! How does an EPA estimated mpg of 120 city, 92 highway and 105 combined sound? One full charge gets about 93 miles so you’ll be driving forever! I saw Alice Chase tweet about the beauty she has and now I can’t wait to see it in person. Charging stations are scattered around more cities than you think so you’ll never be left out in the cold.
Next up to hit the is the 2017 Kia Optima Plug-In Hybrid which was named one of the 5 Best Plug-In Hybrid Cars Under $40,000. The Optima Plug-In Hybrid delivers an estimated EPA of 38 mpg city, 43 highway and 40 combined with a combined horsepower of 202 at 6,000 rpm. I’ll definitely be hopping in this next month as soon as I can. Hopefully I’ll be able to drive it around San Diego to see how it performs on the road, as well.
Last but not least if you are looking for a hybrid vehicle without having to charge up, I suggest the 2017 Kia Optima Hybrid which also made the list for 10 Best Hybrid Cars Under $40,000 with the Niro. The Optima Hybrid starts at just under $26,000 for their basic “Premium” trim package. It comes standard with features such as heated outside mirrors, a smart trunk, projector beam headlights and a rear camera display. All options the “other guys” make you pay more for. It’s a great mid-size sedan choice with a combined horsepower of 192 at 6,000 rpm.
Kia makes it easy and affordable to live a green lifestyle no matter what your budget with their eco-friendly cars. What other ways are you changing to be more “green”?
