Let’s give you a little history on me. My family was never really close. I grew up in a broken home. I can be a little cold because of that and I’m also very standoffish. My husband still has to get used to the fact that when it comes to some family stuff, I don’t really make a big deal out of it because to me, that was my normal (not caring). I’m trying. It’s a daily struggle. It’s different when it comes to friendships. Because the family wasn’t close, I think I grabbed onto my friends even more so the friendships I do make, I work really hard at and put everything into them. I’m so afraid of losing them and being left with nothing like I was as a child. For me, that means driving 3 hours to see my best friend. My husband thinks I’m a little nuts but for me, it’s no big deal and even though I spend about $100 in gas and $30 in tolls and collectively drive 500 miles while being in the car for 7 hours round trip… just to see my friend, FOR THE DAY, then drive back home… it’s worth it.
Christmas is one of my favorite holidays and not being with friends and family on this holiday just kills me so I decided what better time then to drive down to Miami to see my friend but I WON’T tell her!
On Friday, I packed everyone up in the Kia Sorento and we hit the road bright and early. It was a chilly morning so thank gosh for heated seats and the heated steering wheel, that’s all I can say. The kids weren’t exactly thrilled with the early ride but my friend has chickens so as soon as they knew where we were going, they perked right up!
Having a safe vehicle to make such a long trip is ideal and I wouldn’t want to trust anything other than a Kia to get us there. I’m so thankful Kia sponsored this trip and loaned us this sweet ride. For my family of five, the Sorento is a great fit and will be even better when we are eventually out of the car seat stage. There are 3 full rows in the Sorento with plenty of leg room. Even I sat in the 3rd row last week when my mother-in-law took a ride with us. My kids especially love the sound system in the SUV. We’ve been rockin’ out to the Moana soundtrack for a few weeks now. I love to notice the smaller details like the toll ticket holder on the sun visor above the driver’s seat. Super cool little extra they put in there so you can’t lose your ticket.
After 3 1/2 hours and 2 pitstops, we finally made it. The greatest was her reaction. My kids and hers played for hours. Of course, they got some chicken time in, haha. They’ve grown so much since we last saw them, I couldn’t believe it. The last time we saw the rooster, we didn’t even know he was a rooster yet, haha. They also got two new baby chicks. Aren’t they just so cute?! They freak me out but they ARE adorable. After only 8 hours, it was time to leave. We were back on the road around 6 pm so we could get home by around 9pm.
It was an amazing day, a Christmas [eve eve] I’ll never forget. We probably won’t see each other for another 4-6 months so soaking in all that fun was necessary. The holidays just gave me another reason to make it a point to see her.
Driving the Kia Sorento on such a long trip definitely gave me peace of mind and my husband as well since he was at work the entire time. We drive it so much that I cannot imagine having a better car as the center of our lives. To get us to point A and B easier, smoother, safer, and filled with fun. If the walls could talk it would tell stories of school, laughter, and so much out-of-tune singing it’s not even funny (and maybe a tiny bit of yelling because let’s be real).
Kia has an all new vehicle coming in 2017. Check out TheCurveAhead.net to see the first couple teaser videos with the newest video being released on January 2nd! So many amazing things are on the horizon for Kia, I cannot wait to see them for myself and share everything with you along the way.
How far have you driven to surprise a loved one around the holidays?
