Tailgating season is alive and well and in our house there is no shortage of football, food, and drinks. Every year we root for Florida State University and New York Giants and every season when my husband has friends over I am in the kitchen trying to keep up with how much a house full of grown men can eat.
Before being married I never cared about football (or any sports really) and never saw myself as “that type of wife”. But now I fully embrace the footballs ways and one way I can get in on the action is by hosting some awesome parties for my husband and his friends. They never really care about what I am cooking so to ‘spice’ things up I am always trying new recipes and experimenting on my own.
As a mom, making nutritious choices for my family is important. That’s why I love 100% Florida Orange Juice – it provides vitamin C plus other essential nutrients like potassium, folate and thiamin, and the whole family loves the taste! It is also free of fat, sodium, cholesterol and added sugar.
- 1⁄4 C 100% Florida Orange Juice
- 1T lime juice
- 1T jerk seasoning
- 1t ginger, minced
- Combine all ingredients in bowl, mix thoroughly.
- Pour marinade over chicken skewers, cover and refrigerate at least three hours or preferably overnight.
On Saturday FSU played for the first time and I knew I needed to bring on some great food to help the guys cheer on their favorite collegiate team. I prepared some chicken skewers but instead of regular BBQ sauce or some other plain sauce, I marinaded them using a recipe I found on floridacitrus.org. I didn’t even tell the guys that I added Florida Orange Juice but yet they kept commenting on the citrus flavor. They all thought I used some prepackaged stuff until I let them in on the secret. A couple of them made me write down the recipe so they could give it to their wives, haha.
And since I live in central Florida I love supporting businesses that are local. Florida citrus fruit is harvested from close to 569,000 sprawling acres, carefully handpicked from lush groves, and then washed, graded and packaged to produce more than 80 percent of the U.S. citrus supply. We love driving by the groves and seeing all the trees lined up.
What’s your favorite way to enjoy Orange Juice? Have you ever added it as a “secret ingredient” in a recipe?
