I have come to reality that we live in a totally different world than what I grew up in so if my kids ask to use the iPad I allow it but only on a few conditions. They stick to the “KIDS” folder I made for them so they only play safe games and apps my husband and I approve of, they play nice, they have a time limit, and learn.
Most of the apps the girls “play” are actually learning apps disguised as fun games. I think it’s the best way to get kids to learn without them even realizing they are learning.
I was recently asked to download two new learning apps from ebooks and as soon as I read up on them I knew they’d be perfect.
Wee Kids Math
- Algebra and arithmetic basics, numbers 0-20, calculations for beginning learners, addition and subtraction
- Logic and memory games.
- For children’s protection, no third-party advertising and no in-app purchase!
This fun underwater themed app has 20 different games, levels of learning, and fun. Wee Kids Math is a bit too “old” for Kendall since she is not even 3-years-old yet but she still enjoys playing around in the app because of all the bright colors and fun animals, birds, and bugs.
The caterpillar came was her favorite. There are 2 numbers already on the caterpillar’s body. From there the child has to search the screen for the other numbers and drag each one in order from 0-20. What I like is that when a child does not get the answer right you simply here a “uh oh” and the number bounces back. There is no “WRONG” or pop-up, ect – nothing that I feel will get the child discouraged from wanting to continue. I love that.
Wee Kids ABC
- Reading and writing activities, alphabet, Vocabulary, word – image association.
- Created for children aged 5 years and up.
- For children’s protection, no third-party advertising and no in-app purchase
From letters to words – Wee Kids ABC is an educational game for children, truly exciting and unique in its kind. Kids get to play with exciting circus performers and animals as they learn their ABC’s, spelling words, and letters.
This game shows a letter and different objects. You have to touch each object that begins with that letter. That’s not all though, then it shows the words for each object and the child must drag the name to the correct place. That part I had to help Kendall with of course.
THESE are games I love letting my girls play and I never feel like a bad mom who just let’s her kids stare at the iPad being mindless. My girls are actually learning AND playing and that makes me happy. That is something I can stand behind.
ebooks & Kids is actually having a contest right now. The 7 day contest (ending on May 17, 2013). All you have to do is take a picture of your child spending a time with the family and playing with the apps at home, outside, basically anywhere he or she usually plays with an iPad. Share them on INSTAGRAM by tagging with #funinfamily and follow them on Twitter – https://twitter.com/ebooks_kids. Send an email at email@example.com letting know about your picture so they can be sure to track it correctly.
The winner gets their photo made into a painting that is drawn by hand, then sent to you so you can print and frame it! Just look at the example before. So cute and definitely a piece that will deserve to be on your wall.
