Ah the life of a blogger. We live on our phones most days and my iPhone is my lifeline to all things blogging when I’m at home, away, or at a media event. Okay, so no biggie right? Well, iPhone’s aren’t exactly known for their battery life and when you are tweeting, on Facebook, sending photos to Instagram, and sometimes even blogging from your phone the battery dies within hours.
Sometimes a wall outlet is not at my disposal so I needed a portable charger when I am out and about or at a blog conference. Something portable, slim, and lightweight that I can carry around and charge my phone at the same time.
The Belkin Power Pack 2000 has been just that for me to ensure I don’t run out of battery life when I need it most. A USB to micro-USB cable is included for both charging the battery and recharging the Power Pack. To charge, simply plug the micro-USB into your device and plug the USB into the Power Pack. A convenient charge indicator lets you know how much power is available. When it’s time to recharge, just flip the cable and plug it into your computer.
The flaw in this idea is that there isn’t an option to plug it into the wall. I understand that yes you may not have access to charge it in the wall sometimes and I love the USB idea but I would also like to see foldout outlet prongs so if you do have access you can charge it. I am going to NYC on Tuesday and I’m not bringing my laptop but I’d like to have the Power Pack 2000 with me. It’ll be great for a while but once I use it and it dies there is no way for me to charge it again. I don’t like that.
What I do like is that there is intelligent circuitry with built-in voltage sensing detects and responds the power my device needs, while safety features ensure that the device is protected. Thermal Management shuts off the battery before it overheats. Over-Current Protection and Short Circuit Protection prevent spikes in power, so my device won’t be damaged if I have a faulty charging cable or a glitch in your the Power Pack.
The Belkin Power Pack 2000 holds 95% of its charge for up to 30 days so I’ll have it when I need it thanks to StorageSafe technology. Most other competitor portable chargers start to discharge the moment they are fully charged.
