Pottery Barn Kids Halloween Costume Review 2012

Ah Halloween, a celebrated holiday in this household but to be honest we don’t go completely crazy with decorations or anything. If I do decorate it’s with whimsical decorations, not scary haunted house type decorations. I don’t think the girls would appreciate that and I really don’t like the scary decorations myself.

Makenna pretty much starts thinking about next year’s Halloween costume around… I don’t know, November 1st. So to say she’s been planning, picking, and repicking is an understatement. Last year she loved her unicorn costume and I swore she’d wear it again this year but at the last minute she decided it would be too hot for it.

With so many super hero movies in theaters and coming out on DVD this year I wasn’t surprised when Makenna said she wanted the Pink Superhero Costume. I try to buy things that will fit Makenna now because she grows really slow and usually things can fit her for multiple years before she out grows them. We go the size 7/8 thinking it would fit pretty good but come to find out the shirt is super big on her. She’s a small 7 year old though so I’m not surprised. If you look close enough in the picture above, I have her sleeves rolled up because what is suppose to be 3/4 length actually goes past her wrists.

The designers at Pottery Barn always pay super close attention to details big and small. The cape and shirt are both 100% polyester which make them super easy to spot clean. Despite that I wish it wasn’t 100% polyester. After wearing it a few times around the house and then out to a theme park Halloween event some small snags and holes have appeared in the fabric. Totally not sure how they got there but for $59 I wouldn’t expect this, especially not from PBK.

Horrible lighting but I swear it’s the same shirt.

Last year Kendall wasn’t really into the whole Halloween-Trick-or-Treating thing since she was just 15 months old. This year she is exactly and after browsing through all the cute costumes Pottery Barn Kids has to offer she finally chose the Peacock costume. Kendall is 27 months old and can typically fit into size 4 shirts so she is a tall girl without question. I wasn’t sure what size to order her but I went with a 2T-3T anyway. As you can see it fits her pretty well but for a whole year of playing? I don’t think so. I wish the sizing was a little better because the 4-6 seems crazy big and would have probably swallowed Kendall up if I would have gone with that size.

The costume itself though. Totally and completely precious. We have heard so many “awww” and “Look how cute!!” and “oh my gosh!” from people left and right. The three-dimensional costume is stuffed with polyester padding and sewn of fleece with polycotton lining for warmth and comfort. The wings are by far the best part with the layers of colored felt, shimmering tulle underneath.

There is a headpiece that I completely die over because it’s too dang cute but it just will not stay on which makes me so sad. It’s filled so the peacock will stand upright but the one we have has been filled too much I think so instead of a flat bottom it is rounded, but the opposite roundness of the head, if that makes sense. I’ve included a picture below so you can see.

Are we happy with the costumes? Of course I think the bodysuit of the peacock is hands down amazing and it see tons of dress-up play days now.

My only wish is that the superhero shirt was made out of something different, and that the peacock head-piece was rounded to the shape of the head so it can actually sit there without falling off.

Don’t have superhero or peacock loving kids? That’s alright because PBK has tons of amazingly cute costumes to choose from.
