“It’s Just The Estrogen Talking”. Or is it? #KotexMom

My daughter hasn’t gotten her period yet but this month I was happy when she asked me a very important question. “How will I know it’s coming? I don’t to stain my clothes.” A very valid question and worry, I think.

I explained to Makenna that even if we track her period on a calendar it may be off due to stress or other environmentally things going on in her life so the sure fire way to know if she will start her period soon is to listen to her body. Becoming overly sensitive, or very moody, she needs to start preparing because she may start within a few days.

Of course knowing your period and body gets easier as time goes on. And chocolate helps… a lot.

Some tips I think will be very helpful for your daughter:

  1. Sleepover? No problem: Always have a little care package ready for your daughter. Inside, it’s filled with a few U Kotex by Tweens pads, Midol, and a change of underwear.
  2. Signs: There are always some signs right before she starts. You know the ones I am talking about — acne breakout, pants feeling tight, breasts are very tender, slight cramping. By teaching your daughter to look for these, she will be well prepared and not have as many accidents.

45% of girls were not prepare when they got their period. 45%. To me that’s a high percentage and I want my daughter to be in the know and be 100% prepared.

You too can talk to your daughter about her period, I promise! And if she has any other questions that you can’t answer send her to the U by Kotex website which can answer those questions for your tween or teen.

Disclosure:I wrote this review while participating in a Brand Ambassador Campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of U by Kotex Tween and received products to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate. All opinions are my own.

While I was growing up, no one told me what was going on with my body so when things began to change I basically freaked out. Something HAD to be wrong with me. The Care & Keeping of You – The Body Book for Girls from the American Girls collection is what saved me and got me on the correct path. So I recommend that to every girl to read around age 10, also open discussion about everything. Tell her the pros and cons of each feminine products and let them decide what they believe will be best for them.

It’s great to know our girls will be prepared and more relaxed than most since we took the proper steps to educate them early. YAY!

I started very young and had no idea what was going on, so I’ve been thinking I should probably start talking to my daughter about it next year. Great post!

I was not prepared. My mom knew I watched the movie at school and thought that was enough! I will talk to my daughter for sure!

That isn’t an easy question to answer quickly I bet. I have 3 daughters, 2 of them have already started. I need to have the talk with my youngest soon.
