My daughter hasn’t gotten her period yet but this month I was happy when she asked me a very important question. “How will I know it’s coming? I don’t to stain my clothes.” A very valid question and worry, I think.
I explained to Makenna that even if we track her period on a calendar it may be off due to stress or other environmentally things going on in her life so the sure fire way to know if she will start her period soon is to listen to her body. Becoming overly sensitive, or very moody, she needs to start preparing because she may start within a few days.
Of course knowing your period and body gets easier as time goes on. And chocolate helps… a lot.
Some tips I think will be very helpful for your daughter:
- Sleepover? No problem: Always have a little care package ready for your daughter. Inside, it’s filled with a few U Kotex by Tweens pads, Midol, and a change of underwear.
- Signs: There are always some signs right before she starts. You know the ones I am talking about — acne breakout, pants feeling tight, breasts are very tender, slight cramping. By teaching your daughter to look for these, she will be well prepared and not have as many accidents.
45% of girls were not prepare when they got their period. 45%. To me that’s a high percentage and I want my daughter to be in the know and be 100% prepared.
You too can talk to your daughter about her period, I promise! And if she has any other questions that you can’t answer send her to the U by Kotex website which can answer those questions for your tween or teen.
