This was taken with my iPhone. No filters and not zoomed in! Yes, my phone was this close to him and this little guy would not leave the car antenna. He would lift off, then come back. The girls would scare him, then he’d come back. He stayed here for almost 2 hours when we were playing outside.
This was taken with my Nikon D3100. I love that you can see the little hairs on his face and legs, and it kinda looks like he’s smiling.

What a great picture Jen! I think the iPhone is amazing!!
Dragonflies are really neat. I am impressed that your phone took such a great picture!
Great shot!
Great shots!
Beautiful and creepy at the same time.
Wow, that is totally amazing that he stayed there for your pictures!!
Very cool photos. I love dragonflies.
One of these was stuck to the front of my car. It wasn’t alive but in perfect condition. My 4 year old would scream if he seen it.
I found one like that on the floor of our garage a couple weeks ago. I guess he got stuck inside and then died? He was in perfect condition too.
Awesome photos–I love dragonflies!
what a cute and friendly little guy! That 2nd picture is amazing with all the definition!
Beautiful photos!
Great shots!! amazing to be able to see something like this!!
Great photos. However, I wouldn’t have gotten that close. I’m just too scary!
holy zoom great shots
Yikes – I got the heevie jeevies just looking at that picture, I couldn’t have gotten that close.
Impressive! Thanks for sharing.
WOW! Those are such great shots!!
Very pretty. I love dragonflies, but not when they land on me
great capture!!
That is so cool, he found his spot and didn’t want to budge from it.
Wow – great picture – you must have a really great lens! Now i am jealous, i need a new camera….
I was using the kit lens on my Nikon which is the 18-55mm
Awesome!
WOW I had no idea the iPhone could take close ups like that! You must have an awesome lens on your D3100 too, mine is too out of range for close ups like this and the micro lenses are SO expensive! Guess I just need an iPhone for those close ups.
I think is amazing when birds, butterflies, etc come close like that and really give you a lesson in nature wonder. That is incredible how you can see every little detail, like the sections on his transparent wing. Keep that pic for science class when the kids get older. Kids love to study insects!

That’s beautiful! It’s so hard to get good shots of dragonflies!
I don’t think I could have gotten that close lol. Me and bugs don’t mix.
I wish I had an iphone because they do take excellent pics! I cant justify the extra $30/ month tho :/
And if I saw this guy I would have screamed lol, hes huge!
Wow! Those pics are amazing. I don’t think I would have gotten that close even if it let me.
I know I’m impressed with the quality of pictures I get with my iPhone, my hubby has the iPhone 4, and gets even better photos.
What great pictures!
Very neat. I can’t believe the quality cell phone cameras have these days!
Oh wow! To get that close with a phone? Mad skills! Love the photos!
Thank you Sarah
I have that same Nikon! I’m seriously impressed you captured the little guy!
Believe me, I was shocked. I kept moving closer and closer hoping he wouldn’t move. I guess he just loves his photo taken
I wonder why he fell so in love with that antenna that day!
Neat pictures! It is amazing how the hold their body at that angle while holding on to something like in the first picture.
That is super cool!
really neat!
What a great picture, it seems he wanted to play with you and your girls
Wow that is great photos for a phone, very cool!
You must have the 4s, right? The regular 4 doesn’t take nearly as good of pictures.
I am so surprised the dragonfly stood still so long! What luck!
nope. I have the regular iPhone 4. I’m not sure why but he was definitely loving it in that spot.
That is so sweet, I am loving my camera too!!
