Britax B-Ready Eclipse – Review and Giveaway

Last week when I was attending The Niche Mommy conference I had the opportunity to meet with some of the fine ladies behind Britax. It was great learning about all the Britax products and see them in person.

At the end of the conference Britax held a giveaway of all the products they brought to the conference.

I won! I won the new Eclipse B-Ready stroller! I am so grateful to Britax and Niche Mommy because I may not have this stroller if it weren’t for them!

About the Britax B-READY

The BRITAX B-READY is a full-size, modular stroller capable of growing with your family. The B-READY can accommodate multiple combinations of infant car seats, a bassinet, or dual toddler seats to create an in-line double stroller.

B-READY Specifications

  • Stroller Weight: 26 pounds
  • Unfolded Dimensions: 40.75 inches L x 26.5 inches W x 45 inches H
  • Folded Dimensions: 30 inches L x 26.5 inches W x 12.5 inches H
  • Max Child Weight: 55 pounds
  • Seat Back Height: 20 inches
  • Seat Depth: 9 inches
  • Seat Width: 12.75 inches
  • Shoulder Width: 12.75 inches
  • Harness Slot Heights: 10.5, 12.5 and 15 inches
  • Buckle Strap Depth: 4.5 inches
  • Recline Positions: 3

The 2012 B-Ready has a new member to the family and that’s the Eclipse! The all black frame is sleek, stylish, and eye catching!

New for 2012 the Britax has improved the tires on the B-Ready. Instead of air-filled tires they are now rubber and foam filled! The outside of the tires are rubber but the inside is foam so you will never have to worry about a flat. The fabulous thing is that they still act like air-filled tires so they are going to be totally smooth ride and help to absorb bumps and be able to go over all different types of terrain! The back wheels are pretty large in my opinion at 11 inches and the front are 8 inches.

Also for 2012 Britax has improved their 5-Point Harness System. You still get the great no re-thread harness and padded head rest that past models have had but now, instead of the shoulder and hip straps being separate parts they are now one which makes strapping baby in just that much easier.

You get a adjustable handle with comfort grip. I’m not sure on the height specs but the lowest setting is perfect for Makenna (7 years) when she wants to stroll Kendall around. The setting you see it in is where I like it and my husband uses it one more higher.

With the B-Ready baby gets an adjustable foot rest, mesh peek-a-boo window with magnetic closure (LOVE!), and a humongous canopy with pop-out extra sun visor.

There is also a 4 point recline system so whether your child wants to sit completely upright or it’s nap time there is always the perfect position for your child. I love the options that the B-Ready gives.

The one-step, linked parking brake with indicator is probably one of my favorite features. It’s an easy step and you see the red which means both wheels are locked, and again another step to see green and the stroller is free to move. The brake is very flip-flop friendly and when you live in Florida that’s a necessity since that’s typically all I ever wear.

Now the storage basket on the B-Ready is my husband’s favorite. Sounds weird but although we are only a family of 4 we like to be prepared when we leave the house and that means bringing a lot of stuff. If a basket can’t make my husband happy he decides that he hates the stroller. As I said, my husband loves that Britax gave the B-Ready a huge, deep basket that has zippers on both sides and in the front of the stroller.

The frame – it’s just gorgeous. I never thought I’d like a black frame but I’m glad Britax did it. Of course my fear is that it will be scratched on something and you will be able to instantly see the marks but of course after just 3 days of use we are still in great shape.

The amazing thing about the B-Ready system is that if your family’s need change like let’s say you are going to have another baby, well you don’t need to go out and buy a whole new stroller! With 14 different configurations you can’t go wrong. When you purchase your B-Ready you’ll get one regular seat (and car seat adapters) but you can purchase the Britax Chaperone or B-Safe, optional bassinet, or an additional toddler seat to make the stroller fit for you and your family!

Second Seat Specifications

  • Max Child Weight: 35 pounds
  • Seat Back Height: 17 inches
  • Seat Depth: 7.5 inches
  • Seat Width: 12 inches
  • Shoulder Width: 12.75 inches
  • Harness Slot Height: 9.5 and 10.5 inches
  • Recline Positions: 4

With the second toddler seat you get all the great things you have in the regular seat: Multiple Position Recline, tangle free 5-point harness, large canopy with meth peek-a-boo window, and built-in seat suspension.

The seat literally takes less than 1 second to “install” by placing the arms on hook (below) on either side and with a little wrist action it can come off just as easy. It still takes me a minute to get it off but with a helpful technique I learned from one of the Britax team members at Niche Mommy I am getting it down slowly but surely.

You can fold the stroller with the second seat attached. As you can see in the first picture the seat needs to be laid down all the way (don’t worry it won’t fall that way when your child is in it) and then you can fold the stroller.

The great thing about the lower seat is that it doesn’t add any length to the stroller so you can still maneuver as if you  are pushing as a single stroller. My husband is 6’2″ and it doesn’t interfere with his stride at all.

I can admit that I never gave a second thought about in-line double stroller. I always thought how unfair it must be for the child on the bottom, figured they probably wouldn’t have leg room, ect.

Now that we’ve used the B-Ready as an in-line double I can tell you that my kids couldn’t wait to jump in the bottom seat. Of course at 7 years old Makenna is passed the maximum weight limit for the second seat which is 35 lbs but Kendall is still in the weight limit so she happily jumps on in and rides along.

Biggest news of all? We’ve had the B-Ready for a week and my husband loves it. It’s extremely hard to empress my husband and he has complain about every stroller we’ve owned. So far, so good, and I haven’t heard a single complaint yet.

I asked Britax for a giveaway and I have great news! They are going to give one of my fabulous readers a 2012 B-Ready (not second child seat) in the color of your choice!
